Science Sundays: Marine Mammals and Seabirds of the Southern Ocean - Livestream
The Southern Ocean surrounding Antarctica is home to a unique array of marine mammal and seabird species. Because the Southern Ocean is big, remote, and inhospitable to humans, we often rely on “biologging†technologies, such as satellite tracking, to learn about the ecology of these marine predators. Despite its remoteness, the Southern Ocean is not immune to the impacts of human activities. In addition to being impacted themselves, marine predators may be able to act as sentinels of these impacts.Â
Join Ryan and learn about the ecology of Southern Ocean marine predators, how we study them, how the Southern Ocean is changing, and what is being done to conserve this ocean wilderness.
