The California Air Resources Board (CARB) is the state agency primarily responsible for protecting the public health of all Californians against harmful air quality that results from both climate change and human-caused air pollution. As a result of innovative leadership and the policies and strategies that it has implemented since its creation in 1967 - including first-in-the-nation tailpipe emissions standards, the requirement of catalytic converters and zero-emission vehicle regulation - CARB has become an internationally-renowned pioneer in effective air and climate programs.
