From Frustrated Quantum Magnetism to Public Policy Research - Livestream
In the first part of this talk, Dr. Parker will give a quick overview of how physicists think about phase transitions, and will discuss an example from his own research, in which he ran large-scale computer simulations of a quantum magnetic marerial known as YbMgGaO_4. In the second part, he'll shift gears and will give an overview of the RAND Corporation, a large public-policy research organization. He'll discuss some similarities and differences between physics research and public policy research.
