Greening Factory Farms vs. Agroecology

Join us for a first-of-its-kind discussion on industrial agriculture, its impacts and the future of an agroecological food and farm system that will bring together experts from opposite ends of the spectrum.

UC Berkeley’s Dr. Tim Bowles will join author and journalist, Michael Grunwald for a discussion on Food Futures, moderated by veteran journalist Kim Severson, national food correspondent with the New York Times.

In Mr. Grunwald’s recent piece in the New York Times and his forthcoming book, he argues that “greening” efficient factory farms is the future of food. Dr. Tim Bowles, Associate Professor of Agroecology and Sustainable Agricultural Systems, will argue the opposite: that sustainable agriculture or agroecology is the best hope for the future of food, addressing the crises of climate change, biodiversity and food insecurity.

  • Panelist: Tim Bowles, PhD, Associate Professor, Department of Environmental Science, Policy and Management
  • Panelist: Michael Grunwald, Journalist
  • Moderator: Kim Severson, National Correspondent, New York Times
