Birdy Hour: Mixed-Species Foraging Flocks and Functional Diversity in Costa Rica - Livestream

Sam Eberhard

During this Birdy Hour Sam will discuss why tropical ecosystems are so diverse and the role that mountains play in shaping patterns of tropical bird diversity. He will address possible reasons why bird species might join mixed-species foraging flocks, and talk about why these flocks are so interesting. Then he will introduce the concept of functional diversity and talk about what he discovered about mixed-species flocks in Costa Rica when he looked at the functional diversity of birds that participate in them.
