Optical filters for free-space optical communications applications

Viavi Solutions is a worldwide leader in the design and manufacture of thin-film optical coatings for a wide variety of markets and applications.  Over the past five years, there has been a renewed interest in free-space optical communication, especially for satellite-to-satellite communication links.  These systems require filters for signal-to-noise optimization, band splitting, and wavelength selection.  In this talk, we will review a schematic layout of these systems and discuss some of the challenges involved in building optical filters for these links.
