The Latest on Vera Rubin Observatory
After 20 years of proposals, multiple DOE and NSF reviews, the construction of the Vera Rubin Observatory on Cerro Pachon in Chile was finally approved. While a few minor construction details remain, the observatory has taken several weeks of test images. This talk includes a review of the observatory, the technology, and its science goals. Early results from the Rubin will be presented. Differences with the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) capabilities and operations are explained.
