The Power of Community in Climate Education: NNOCCI Then & Now - Livestream
Since the early 2010s, the National Network for Ocean and Climate Change Interpretation (NNOCCI) has trained more than 850 climate communicators from 530+ organizations across 46 states. Through a train-the-trainer approach, NNOCCI helps educators build confidence and skills to talk about climate change in hopeful, solutions-focused ways. Together, these communicators reach hundreds of millions of people every year??"and their impact keeps growing.
Join Dr. Megan Ennes, Director of TESI and Associate Curator of Museum Education at the Florida Museum of Natural History, University of Florida, as she shares findings from her study on NNOCCI’s first decade. Her research highlights what makes this approach so effective, including in-person learning, ongoing support, and evidence-based teaching strategies, as well as some of the challenges that come with trying new ways of communicating. Kait Birghenthal, The Marine Mammal Center's Project Coordinator + President of NNOCCI, will join Dr. Ennes after the presentation for a conversation about how NNOCCI has continued to grow and evolve since the study. We’ll wrap up with a Q&A session!
