Microscopic Wonders
All around us there’s a microscopic ecosystem thriving beyond our immediate human perception. On May 3rd, the Explorers Guild will set out on a microcosmic journey into the dense and teeming jungles that exist in a drop of water. Guided by the SF Microscopal Society’s Janai Southworth, we will peer into samples drawn from backyards, streets, and hidden corners of our daily lives, watching as entire ecosystems reveal themselves. Together, we will observe, sketch, and attempt to make sense of what emerges, discovering that what once seemed still and empty is anything but. To make this exploration even more fascinating, you are invited to bring your world with you. A small sample of pond water or found liquid from your environment so that we may all see what has been waiting there all along. Microscopic Wonders will take place on May 3rd from 2??"4pm at Informal Spaces in Oakland (just a couple blocks from BART). This indoor gathering will center around a shared viewing experience, with opportunities for individual exploration using microscopes as well. Please bring a small, non-hazardous liquid sample if you are able (no bodily fluids, no biohazards, and nothing overly pungent), and be prepared to take it home with you afterward. Light snacks and refreshments will be provided. Space is limited to 25 Explorers, and registration is required. Register at weblink.
