Google Earth Works: Free Tools for Environmental and Social Advocacy
Join us for a FREE presentation by Rebecca Moore and the Google Earth Outreach team to learn how Google mapping tools can be applied to the world's pressing problems in areas such as environmental conservation, human rights, cultural preservation, and sustainability.
Moore, who conceived and now manages Google Earth Outreach, will show how the program's virtual animations and maps have become powerful tools for environmental advocacy and social justice on behalf of nonprofits, communities, and indigenous peoples around the world. For example: With the help of visualizations using Google Earth satellite imagery, Moore and the Neighbors Against Irresponsible Logging (NAIL) successfully stopped a plan to log more than 1,000 acres of redwoods in the Santa Cruz Mountains.
During this special public event, you'll also have a chance to hear lessons learned from environmental professionals who attended the Google Earth Outreach workshop earlier that day. Moore and several nonprofit organizations participating in the workshop will team up to share the latest developments in digital mapping for public benefit. Please plan to join us after the presentation for a glass of wine and hands-on demos!
