American Bird Conservancy’s Efforts to Safeguard Seascapes for Seabirds

Brad Keitt is the Oceans and Islands Director at American Bird Conservancy (ABC), where he supports the Hawai‘i and Marine Programs. Prior to ABC Brad was a founding member of the NGO Island Conservation (IC), where he led their NW Mexico program and used the data from his surveys to initiate efforts to designate 12 islands and ~700,000 ha of marine habitat as Mexican national protected areas. Later, as Director of Conservation at IC Brad helped grow a team of 25 field staff across the Americas (Chile, Ecuador, Puerto Rico, California, Hawaii) and the SW Pacific that have removed damaging invasive vertebrates from more than 40 islands. At ABC Brad is focused on bird conservation through policy, legislation, project identification and implementation, and partnerships. ABC’s small but nimble team works to address threats to seabirds at sea and on land and grow awareness about these amazing birds.
