Featuring a Special Performance by Daniel Bernard Roumain (DBR) and Elan Vytal (aka DJ Scientific)

This After Dark features the music of Haitian-American composer/violinist Daniel Bernard Roumain (DBR). DBR's innovative works range from orchestral scores, electronica, and chamber pieces to music for theater, film, and modern dance. For tonight's performance, DBR will collaborate with Bay Area native Elan Vytal (aka DJ Scientific) on turntables.

The concert will feature tracks from DBR's latest albums, Woodbox Beats & Balladry and etudes4violin&electronix, as well as some original tracks created by Elan Vytal, DBR's long-time collaborator and Bay Area DJ. Echoing DBR's career, the music contains elements of classical minimalism, dance club beats, traditional ballads, and thick distortion. The core of this upcoming performance is DBR's signature custom 6-string amplified violin. While using an array of techniques and technologies, DBR's frequent aggressive, percussive lower-string bowing (an extra two strings are added to his instrument for bass lines) makes his violin a vital sonic and compositional force.

Elan Vytal aka DJ Scientific DJ/Composer Elan Vytal, aka DJ Scientific, combines precisely engineered hip-hop beats and scratched rhythms with classical and world music sounds, both live and sampled, creating a uniquely contemporary, yet accessible urban sonic experience. Elan Vytal's recent solo credits include: a Brooklyn Philharmonic mentorship; music director for the Daniel Beaty's play Resurrection; co-host of Kompasshun, a live music dance party held at The Whitney Museum; Brooklyn Museum's First Saturdays; Pro Dreams sound installation at the Studio Museum of Harlem; Kidszone Live, an educational outreach program of the New York Philharmonic; and Bach Meets Hip-Hop, a production for Hewlett-Packard.
