Passive House in California - Success in Sustainability

The Passive House Standard is a rigorous, voluntary energy efficiency standard for buildings of all types that originated in Europe in the late 1980s. The first Passive House building in the US was constructed in Urbana, Illinois in 2003 and the first Passive House retrofit in California was completed in 2009 in Berkeley. In 2010, the first Certified Passive House in California and the first Certified Passive House retrofit in the US was completed in Sonoma. SInce then, much has happened, with up to a dozen projects underway in California.

Originally developed for the climate of Central Europe, Passive House has been adapted to many climates throughout the world and is proving to be the most cost-effective means of achieving carbon-neutrality and sustainability in the built environment. Come hear a talk by leading practitioners of Passive House in California as they discuss past, current and future projects, how Passive House answers California's sustainability needs and how Passive House can be synchronized with GPR, LEED, CAL-GREEN, HERS and other commonplace green building systems.
