Fernandez Ranch Fieldtrip
Spring is here and it is time for the Bay Area Nature Journal Club to draw wildflowers! We will take a moderate hike through the Oak Woodlands and grasslands of the Fernandez Ranch and learn tricks and techniques to help you draw wildflowers in the field.
The hike will be a moderate 3 miles and the trail may be muddy if it has rained recently. To get driving directions and more information about the ranch, download the site map and brochure. Note that it is very easy to miss Christie Road, I drove right past it the first time I tried to visit the Ranch. If rain is likely, check this website in the morning before leaving to see if there is an alternate location for the field trip.
Purchased by the Muir Heritage Land Trust in 2005, Fernandez Ranch is protected open space providing habitat for a variety of native wildlife. Restoration of creek areas and the creation of trails and other visitor amenities were completed before this historic, 702- acre ranch was opened to the public in June 2010.
