Pritzker Lecture: Wildlife Conservation: A Photographer's Life

Suzi Eszterhas is an award-winning wildlife photographer who is best known for her work documenting animal family life on the African savanna. Eszterhas spends several months each year in the field, photographing animals from the poles to the tropics and is well known for her unprecedented work with newborn animals, including lions, cheetahs, tigers, gorillas, orangutans, penguins, bears, and sea otters. In this talk she will take you on a tour of some of her best images and give you an intimate behind the scenes look at what it's like to spend long stretches deep in the wild while living the life of a field photographer. Hear how she composes photos of tiger dens while riding on elephant-back in India, how she keeps herself safe while working with grizzly bears and how the animals respond to her and her camera. Suzi is a fellow of the International League of Conservation Photographers, and has won awards in many competitions, including the Wildlife Photographer of the Year Competition, National Wildlife Photo Contest, and Environmental Photographer of the Year Competition. She is the chair of the Academy's inaugural international "BigPicture: Natural World Photography Competition". Having recently become a Patron of the Sumatran Orangutan Society, Suzi also helps support the Cheetah Conservation Fund, International Rhino Foundation, Kibale Chimpanzee Project, Aviarios Sloth Sanctuary, and the Center for Animal Protection among others.
