Future Fridays: Crossing the Final Frontier: Space Exploration, Biology, and Health
Ryan Scott, M.A. is a contractor support Scientist on the Rodent Research Project at NASA Ames Research Center. The NASA Rodent Research Project provides a research platform aboard the International Space Station for long-duration rodent experiments in space. The experiments examine how microgravity affects mice, providing information relevant to human spaceflight, with discoveries in basic biology and knowledge that have direct benefits for human health on Earth. Prior to his current position, Ryan was a Research Associate at NASA Ames, involved in ground-based investigations understanding exercise and drug countermeasures to counteract spaceflight bone loss, microgravity effects on the female reproductive system, and artificial gravity as a countermeasure for various physiological systems. Ryan previously was a Lecturer in the Biology Department at San José State University, and is the 2017 American Society for Bone Mineral Research "Young Investigator of the Year.â€
