What Is Quantum Cognition?

In this talk I will provide a review of Quantum Cognition which is an approach to construct cognitive models based on the mathematics of quantum probability theory rather than classical probability theory based on Boolean algebra.

Despite the success of traditional cognitive models based on the laws of classical probability theory, there are several examples of human behavior that do not fit in those formulations. These difficulties motivated scientists from different backgrounds to develop alternative probabilistic models based on the mathematics of quantum theory. This new formulation has not only been shown to be able to provide solutions to many of these previously unresolved issues, but has also been shown to be a generalization to the main traditional cognitive models.

In this talk I will make a historical review of the mutual influence of physics and cognitive science, the evolution of the development of cognitive models based on Boolean logic and also on parallel development of an alternative probability model to describe the quantum phenomena, and the main properties of quantum cognitive models. In this overview I will show data and theoretical arguments that support the quantum cognitive models.
