SciComm Studio 021: The Future of Traditional Media
A major shift is underway as media companies increasingly turn to online audiences. In this landscape, advertising is not the only goal: today, traffic and data related to visitors of on-line platform is an increasingly desired commodity. The result? “The influence of social media platforms and technology companies is having a greater effect on American journalism than even the shift from print to digital†(Owen, 2017). Is traditional media obsolete, or can “old media†adapt to the rising challenge?
In this lunchtime SciComm Studio event, we’ll examine whether millennials use less traditional media - especially traditional TV - to get news, the subject of a survey within Geneva University. Sharing the first results, our guests Patrick-Yves Badillo and Dominique Bourgeois will suggest strategies that can reinforce traditional media with new technologies, such as chatbots and artificial intelligence.
Lunch included.
