Southern Skies, Global Reach: Chile and Modern Astronomy
Chile is home to many of the largest and most advanced observatories on Earth, due to high altitudes, dry deserts, and low light pollution. Chile has become a center of cutting edge astronomical research, but this has been made possible by the collaborative efforts of multiple countries and the work of scientists and engineers from around the globe. This past summer I had the opportunity to participate in the Astronomy in Chile Educator Ambassadors Program (ACEAP). The program took me to the major observatories (ALMA, Vera Rubin, Gemini South, and more) and met many of the people who keep the observatories running. I’ll be sharing my insights into Chile, international astronomical collaborations, and the southern skies.
