Oakland Museum Field Trip
With rain in the forecast, we have moved our field trip indoors to the Oakland Museum. We will start in the natural sciences hall and draw and sketch from the specimens in their cases. The taxidermy work at the Oakland Museum is outstanding and it is a great place to study anatomy up close on a very cooperative subject. A small folding stool is very helpful for museum sketching. If indoor noise or people asking “are you drawing?†bothers you, you may want to bring a pair of headphones and just put the cord in your pocket (or you could hook it to real music). This is handy indoors but I do not suggest it for drawing out in nature. I personally enjoy the soundscapes in the Oakland Museum so this is not a problem for me.
The museum requests that we do not use art materials that could potentially mar the halls (spilled paint etc.). Graphite and colored pencils are great media to use.
After our famous potluck lunch, Â we will visit the California Art gallery before returning to the Natural History Hall for more sketching.
