PopLife
NightLife is pleased to announce the first installment of our Summer Concert Series, happening every Thursday in August. Join us in the Academy East Gardens for sets from San Francisco favorites Rykanda Parasol and Silver Swans, brought to you by Popscene and Tricycle Records.
Often compared to the likes of Nick Cave and The Velvet Underground, Rykarda Parasol's music personifies both swamp and sophistication, often termed "Rock Noir". A uniquely gender-bending voice, her strength is in delivering Faulkner-like tales with conviction and suspense. Her music draws on American rock, soul and southern influences as well as the Northern European styles imparted on to her by her parents. Parasol has been featured in BUST and Venus Magazine as well as featured on the cover of San Francisco's own 7x7. Set time 8:15 pm – 9:15 pm
The electro dream-pop project that is the Silver Swans captures the eerie dramatics of The Knife and the syrupy darkness of Ladytron to build a dynamic, exultant sound all their own. "[They] are a fantastic new local synth/dance side-project of Ann Yu, lead singer of LoveLikeFire, and it's an incredible piece of haunting, hypotonic and dreamy electronic pop. " --Aaron Axelsen, Live105 Soundcheck. Set time 7:15 pm to 8:00 pm
Special in-between act DJ sets from Live 105 and Popscene's Aaron Axelsen.
NightLife resident DJ Jeff Stallings returns to our main floor. Jeff's sets feature Balearic, African, Bedouin and Latin beats and range from chill-out and electronic lounge to start the party, then nu-disco, deep house and chill-house to keep the dancefloor cooking. He is a resident on the downtempo internet radio show Below Zero and has played Mezzanine, 1015 Folsom, Swig and Harlot.
