NightLife Carnival: Science Tarot, Velocity Circus, and Mad Science

Come one, come all.  This edition of NightLife transforms the Academy into a unique carnival of science, art, and music.

Witness the official launch party of Science Tarot , a creative science communication project that combines science, art and mythology into a tarot deck to engage and awaken people's curiosity about science and the natural world.  African Hall will be transformed into a gallery set up with the original deck artwork: come chat with the artists, receive your own personal Science Tarot reading from an expert, or purchase a deck of your very own (cash only). 

The costumed spectacle that is Gregangelo and the Velocity Circus will be on hand to add even more color to the evening; they will create a special scientific take on their elaborately crafted costumes and performances. 

Live music returns to NightLife, once a month we will feature the best bands from San Francisco and beyond.  This week, Tricycle Records recording artist Geographer headlines in the East Garden from 8:15 to 9:15.  Described by the OCDM as, "a beautiful cocktail of music… two parts Grizzly Bear and one part New Order, mix well and you've got yourself a heady concoction of sound…"  this band is truly one of San Francisco's sonic gems.  Opening the night  of live music from 7:15 to 8:00 pm is Kill Moi, whose innovative blend of vocally driven pop music has been described as a mélange of such diverse sounds as the Shins, Neil Diamond, and Neutral Milk Hotel.

Inside the museum,one of our favorite DJ acts returns to NightLife, Mad Science.  Their signature sound is best described as a solid base of dirty, grindy & funky electro-bass flanked by vocal driven booty-shaking break beats and Spiced with deep, progressive house and tech funk. They currently hold residencies at such upscale dance clubs as Infusion, Supperclub and Harlot.
