Philosophy of Sustainability: The Natural Step
As a team leader or green consultant, if you have ever struggled to keep a development team focused on sustainability without devolution to point chasing in any of a variety of green building programs, or derailment during value engineering, for example, TNS can help to establish team goals based on a common language and shared purpose based on broadly accepted scientific principles.
In this Introduction to Systems Thinking about sustainability, we will explore basic concepts, precedents, and applications of The Natural Step - a framework for thinking about sustainability based on compliance with four System Conditions distilled by leading scientists, including:
- Business Planning that respects the triple bottom line: ecological, social and financial.
- Applications in business, community planning, product design and (residential) architecture.
- Systems thinking based on interdisciplinary consensus.
- Tools to effect truly integrated design, construction, operations and maintenance through an inclusive dialog based on mutual respect.
