Energy Dashboards - An Analytical Understanding of Green Home Performance

We will discuss the importance of performance feedback in green homes and how user behavior will become a key piece of the energy efficiency and green building puzzle.  We will present on the available monitoring tools and devices on the market today and provide real life case examples of residential energy efficiency monitoring on a local home renovation project.

Randy Potter, VP of Earth Bound Homes will talk about the importance of occupant behavior in zero energy home building and how energy monitoring is a critical tool in effecting this behavior.  Chris Hunt of Powerdown US will present several home monitoring technologies including the Kill-a-Watt, the Energy Detective (TED) and the e-monitor system.  He will have the actual units to look at and will talk about his experience with each.  Ross Koningstein, a google engineer and Atherton homeowner will present a brief overview of some of the sensors he used in his house for heat/power/water monitoring, then concentrate on electricity and what he has observed and learned from electrical energy use in his house.  We will then have a presentation from a Google Product Manager on their new Google Powermeter product (tentative) and how it can be used for residential energy monitoring.
