The Golden Era of Time Domain Astrophysics: New explosions and their Origins - SOLD OUT

Â
Speaker: Dr. Stefano Valenti is an Associate Professor of Physics and Astronomy at UC Davis. He received his Ph.D. in Physics at the University of Ferrara, Italy in 2008. Before joining UC Davis, he was an assistant project scientist at UC Santa Barbara and the Los Cumbres Observatory and was a National Institute of Astrophysics Fellow. Dr. Valenti is currently focusing his research on supernovae, particularly the early evolution of these explosions by using a network of robotic telescopes to observe 1000 nearby galaxies every night to discover and monitor supernova. In the early hours to days after explosion, supernovae provide clues to how they explode and what their progenitor star systems are. He has also conducted research in cosmology, AGN reverberation mapping, astronomical surveys and time domain phenomena.
