Resilient Cities: Creating a Livable World
This event is the first of a two-part discussion featuring Timothy Beatley, professor of sustainable communities at the University of Virginia, along with others from the Bay Area. Half of the world's inhabitants now live in cities with the number of urban dwellers rapidly approaching five billion people. As many cities are powered by ancient and rapidly depleting fuel supplies, we have to ask the question: are the world's cities headed for inevitable collapse? This conversation will address how intelligent planning and visionary leadership can lead us to sustainable urbanism. Transportation systems and buildings can be feasibly developed to replace our present low efficiency systems and can take our cities to greater sustainability and resilience. Please join us for a look to our urban future. Presented in partnership with Island Press.
Second event is on 3/22/2011.
