Talking to True Believers

When skeptics meet true believers, even the simplest questions can create conflict. As co-host of the Oprah Winfrey Network's "Miracle Detectives", Dr. Indre Viskontas has had the unique experience of traveling the world talking to true believers, investigating their claims, and confronting them with facts that often shake those beliefs to the core. She'll recount anecdotes talking to believers in mysticism, premonitions, apparitions, guardian angels, and many other topics, discussing lessons-learned with tips for modern skeptics about when and when-not to confront believers with evidence.

About the speaker: Dr. Indre Viskontas is co-host of Miracle Detectives, a new one-hour documentary series airing on The Oprah Winfrey Network. In this series, two investigators-one a believer, the other a scientist- travel the globe to uncover answers to mysterious incidents that transcend logic. She has appeared on The Oprah Winfrey Show and has been interviewed by Entertainment Tonight, CNN, Access Hollywood, E!, and TV Guide. Dr. Viskontas holds a Ph.D. in Cognitive Neuroscience from UCLA and a Master of Music degree from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. She has published more than 30 original papers and chapters related to the neural basis of memory and creativity, including several seminal articles in top scientific journals. Defying traditional career boundaries, she also maintains a flourishing artistic career specializing in contemporary opera performance.
