The 2011 Summer Youth Studio at Root Division is scheduled in conjunction with our July exhibition, A Live Animal, an exploration of human and animal interaction. Several of the featured artists will be guest co-teachers, and the children will have the amazing opportunity to experience an onsite workshop with the East Bay Vivarium Traveling Reptiles Program.

In the Animal Sculptures Class, children ages 6-10 will learn basic building and sculpture techniques, as well as explore their vast creative potential while making imaginary animals & insects and creating their habitats & environments from both new & recycled materials.

In Drawing & Painting Animals kids ages 11-15 will explore drawing and painting wild animals and/or pets from reference images in acrylic & water-based paints. Students will learn techniques for enlarge & transfer pictures from source materials as well as how to mix and use color.
