My Love/Hate Relationship with Clinical Information Technology

Clinical IT - including the electronic health record - has the potential to dramatically improve quality and efficiency of medical care. However, in many implementations the costs outweigh the benefits. My evaluations of the early adoption of a variety of technologies over the past 10 years have left me with a love / hate relationship. After my review of recommendations from the literature, as well as findings from my own projects, I look forward to our discussion of more constructive approaches to innovation.
