underfoot 2011
Underfoot 2011 - Bay Artists look DOWN
Workspace Gallery proudly introduces our second annual sewer extravaganza, Sept 14th through 17th!
What has science got to do with it? Well sometimes you just have to take a chance! A bicycle tour of city infrastructure is a tour of applied science. Places we don't normally think of that only work because of our understanding of science!
Wednesday Sept 14
7 pm - Workspace Gallery presents 14 bay area artists responding to the land below our feet. What do we see and feel about this ground we walk over, tunnel under, drink of, dig up, eat from, and bury our dead in?
8pm - enjoy a virtual photographic tour of street utility covers, "Exploring the Lost Marks of San Francisco's Unseen Tradesmen", by christopher reynolds of reynolds-sebastiani design services.
Saturday Sept 17
3 pm - The Sewer Ride returns! Join us for biking tour of the San Francisco combined sewer/stormwater system, with a focus on the the Mission District and Mission Creek. The tour will be approximately three hours with stops. Comfort riding in crowds and traffic recommended. Bring water, helmet, jacket and curiosity.
7pm - 10PM - Gallery Party! Blues/Americana musician Deborah Crooks returns to Workspace!
These events are all free. Donations 5 - 10 requested but come regardless. Proceeds to benefit our friends at WalkSF, a pedestrian advocacy working to make our streets better.
Workspace Ltd is a 30,000 square foot artist occupied, former industrial laundry building located at 2150 Folsom Street between 17th and 18th.
