Delta Science Center: the Dream Becomes Reality
The Delta Science Center began as a community project in East Contra Costa in 1995. Its aim was to educate the public of all ages about the importance of the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta ecosystem as a California resource. This region is one of the most important, but least understood, natural resources in California. With a size of 1,680 square miles, the San Francisco/San Joaquin Delta estuary drains half of California and is the largest estuary ecosystem on the Pacific coast. The Delta Science Center is partnering with the East Bay Regional Park District, and will have an office in the soon-to-be-completed visitor center at the Big Break Regional Shoreline in Oakley. The Center focuses on educational projects about the Delta, working with East Contra Costa schools and the general public to provide hands-on experiences through information, educational boat trips, teacher seminars, and research studies. Join us tonight to learn more about the Delta ecosystem, and hear more about the Delta Science Center at Big Break, and how you might join in its activities to help preserve and protect this very important natural resource.
