Surf & Tides Nightlife

Celebrate surfing and the tidal forces that impact all life forms in and around the ocean, from sea stars to surfers and coastal residents.  Catch video shorts from Rip Curl, in town for their annual Pro Search surf contest at Ocean Beach. See the sustainable board designs of Las Olas Surfboards and Sustainable Surf.  And encounter (or perhaps join!) the Billion Jelly Bloom, a Burning Man art project of huge luminous jellies that will undulate through the museum.  A photo exhibition will reveal the impact of powerful "king tides" (a confluence of stormy weather, and aligned gravitational pull from the Sun and Moon). Live music tonight by Bay Area surf pop band Drifting Sand, and equatorial beats by DJ Felina.

Enjoy the following planetarium shows this week at NightLife:

Science Tonight: LIVE @ 6:30pm

The Kepler Project

6:30pm

The 17th Century comes to life in this multimedia performance about Johannes Kepler. A script by Nina Wise, visuals by the Academy's Visualization Studio, music by avant cellist Zoe Keating, and performance by Scott Coopwood as Kepler will combine to make this an unforgettable event. Be entertained, moved, informed, amused, and enlightened as the Scientific Revolution unfolds before your eyes.
