Why Climate Disruption Could be Worse and Preventing Catastrophe is Easier

Our speaker is John Harte, Professor of Ecosystem Sciences at the University of California, Berkeley. He is a Fellow of the California Academy of Sciences and the American Physical Society. He has served on six National Academy of Sciences Committees and authored over 190 scientific publications, including eight books. Following a brief summary of the state of global climate science, he will describe UC Berkeley's pioneering research on ecological feedback mechanisms to the climate system and then segue to a blueprint for simultaneously improving our economy and preventing climate catastrophe. Our potluck will meet at the Sierra Club Chapter office in Berkeley, across the hall from the Ecology Center. Optional "zero waste" potluck dinner at 6pm, talk at 7pm until 8:30pm.
