The Road Towards Scalable 1 Gb/s Broadband Access

Cedric Lam

In this talk, I will give an introduction of the Google Fiber project, an initiative to offer 1Gb/s sustainable and symmetric access bandwidths to end users. We will cover the operational issues, from the access network infrastructure perspective that challenges operators. We will review the different architectures and technologies in the Fiber to the Home (FTTH) space and finally will outline the desirable technologies to achieve true 1Gb/s FTTH access speed.
