Hooved Mammals of Modern California
Elk, deer, bighorn sheep, and even pronghorn antelope: these hooved mammals still roam parts of California. Our evening will briefly review the biology of the individual species, and discuss the varied strategies employed to maintain and manage the species in the face of challenges confronting wildlife biologists. Current efforts to restore and manage viable populations of native ruminants--and control the 'exotic' pig--is a dynamic process. The long-term status of big-horned sheep still presents a precarious balance.
