Marilin vs. Marilyn: Lowly Adjunct Lecturer Challenges Woman with Highest IQ
In a recent issue of Parade magazine, Marilyn vos Savant answered a question posed by a reader on how to combat the "onslaught of pseudoscience" in television shows.  Marilyn answered that pseudoscience is only one of the many ways misinformation is disseminated in our society and, while, it does a lot of damage, "… we can't do much about [it]."  In this hour talk, Dr. Marilin Colón informs us how she tries "to do something about it" in her Critical Thinking in Psychology class at Cal State East Bay, Hayward campus. The talk will focus on the specific strategies she employs in her class to teach her students how to think critically and, moreover, how to practice these skills in the hope that these skills will generalize outside the classroom.
Dr. Marilin Colón received her PhD in Psychology (Applied Behavior Analysis) in 2006 at Florida State University. Five years ago, she moved to California and for the past three years she has been the Executive Behavior Analyst for Understanding Behavior, Inc.  In this position, she provides behavior consultation to parents, teachers and staff of children and adults with developmental disabilities in their family and residential homes, schools, and day programs.  She is also an adjunct lecturer at Cal State East Bay, Hayward Campus where she teaches General Psychology, Critical Thinking in Psychology, Behavior Modification and Motivation, and Learning lab.
