Green Myths Busted
Your low-carbon lifestyle might be dirtier than you think. A new study by the Union of Concerned Scientists, Cooler Smarter: Practical Steps for Low-Carbon Living, debunks many cherished facets of sustainable consumption. Among their conclusions: Buying local food is not the most effective way to combat global warming; it's not always best to just keep reusing products like refrigerators and cars; just turning off the lights is not the best way to conserve energy; hybrid cars are not always the best choice; and consumers do not have to sacrifice comfort to reduce their emissions.
What's a well-intentioned consumer to do? Buying smart and clean is a challenge; however, our speakers say there is increasing information available and new products that are better than before, albeit imperfect. Join us for a conversation about how to go beyond feel-good gestures and make purchasing decisions that line up with facts.
Speakers: David Friedman, Deputy Director, Union of Concerned Scientists Nadine Weill, Vice President, Ecofabulous (invited)
