Seabirds in Our Marine Sanctuaries: Point Arena to Point Sur
The waters off the California coast are rich with nutrients, which support diverse populations of invertebrates, fish, marine mammals, and seabirds. Every year from February to August, hundreds of thousands of birds flock to our coastal islands to feed and breed. Tonight, Karen Carlson of the Seabird Protection Network will introduce you to the variety of seabirds and other marine wildlife, which are protected in our local national marine sanctuaries-Cordell Banks, Gulf of the Farallones, and Monterey Bay. Learn about the history and biology of signature seabird species, such as common murres, tufted puffins, pigeon guillemots, and Brandt's cormorants. Find out about seabird colony conservation efforts and how you can help protect local breeding populations, as you explore the coast on foot or by boat. If you register for this free presentation we will hold a seat for you until the scheduled start time. Seating may be available at the door, even if registration is closed.
