Leaf-Cutter Ants....Super Farmers, by Brian Fisher
While the "Invisible Majority" has many types, leaf-cutter ants are truly special. They cut and carry leaf sections back to their colony, upon which they raise a special fungus that they use as food. Brian Fisher, Associate Curator of Entomology at the California Academy of Sciences, is a world expert on ants, who focuses on field work in Madagascar. He has set up many learning centers in that fascinating country, and has discovered hundreds of new species of ants. While his talk will focus on leaf-cutter ants, he will touch on other issues of this world-changing group of insects. His presentation will start at 7 PM.
