The Sea Otter is a keystone species in the kelp forests of the central coast of California. Once severely threatened with extinction by the fur trade, the population of these incredible animals has rebounded to about 2,700 animals and healthy kelp forests have recovered with them. Today, their population has failed to grow beyond this meager number, prompting scientists to investigate why.
