Zapotec Ancestral Traditions: The Circle of Life and Astronomy

Continuing the countdown... Join us for an 11:30 am showing of Tales of the Maya Skies followed by an engaging art and science workshop showcasing funerary traditions of Oaxaca. Rooted in astronomy, we will explore the Zapotec life and death traditions and concepts of the connection between the Earth, the sky, and the zenith and nadir passages of the Sun. Hands-on art activities with natural pigments will be complemented by a visual presentation. Activities led by astronomer Dr. Isabel Hawkins, Sandy Aquino and Diana Hernandez, two interns from Oaxaca.
