Full-Spectrum Science with Ron Hipschman

What's the difference between "heat" and "temperature"? We use the terms interchangeably, but they have precise meanings to physicists. Get a feel for heat and how it flows, and find out how a thermostat works--and how a Thermos® can keep what's hot hot and what's not, not.

For ages 6 and up. First come, first served.

Featuring two short films from Exploratorium Cinema Arts:

Zea (1981, 5 min), by Andre and Jean-Jacques Leduc, is a visual tour-de-force that transforms the commonplace into magic through heat and illusion.

Glass (1958, 10 min.), by Bert Haanstra, is an Academy Award-winning short that playfully contrasts the artistry of traditional glass-blowing techniques with the mechanical production inside a bottle factory.  Edited to a beautiful jazz score by the Pim Jacobs Quintet.
