Energy Fundamentals: Heat Transfer

Understanding the way heat moves is fundamental in building design. From enclosures and detailing to understanding the effects of high mass energy fundamentals: Heat Transfer will discuss the intuitive basis for designing around heat transfer concerns.
Instead of just reviewing radiation, conduction and convection, this class will use specific examples of these phenomena in buildings to illustrate design choices. Examples might include: What difference does the foil face on the batt make? Heat doesn't necessarily rise, hot air does, but heat energy always moves from hotter to colder. How to avoid making your steel stud wall into a heat sink.  What does thermal mass do and not do? Principles of low heat transfer assemblies. Why does humidity make such a difference?,  among others.
