Shop 'Til You Drop NightLife
This week, Bazaar Bizarre fills the Academy with more than 40 independent artists and designers from across the country, featuring handbags, pottery, letterpress stationary, silk-screened t-shirts, baby clothes, zines, posters, body products, and more. Your holiday shopping list will be toast. Speaking of which, December 2012 has long been the subject of doomsday conjecture, and Bay Area scientists are eager to set the record straight. In the forum, an astronomer from the NASA-funded Calendar in the Sky project which is led by the UC Berkeley Center for Science Education will explain that the whole idea is rooted in a misinterpretation of a Mayan calendar.
In the planetarium, take in a live presentation titled "The End of the World…or is it?" at 6:30, followed by two screenings of Earthquake. At the project lab, chat with a scientist about how asteroids can actually help increase biodiversity.
