Dark Energy and the Runaway Universe
Join us to hear Alex Filippenko, Professor of Astronomy, UC Berkeley, as he discusses the expansion of our Universe and how it is speeding up with time, driven by mysterious "dark energy." Dating back to 1998, observations revealed that the expansion rate of the Universe is speeding up with time, rather than slowing down due to gravity as expected. This discovery was honored with the 2011 Nobel Prize in Physics to the team leaders. The origin of the repulsive "dark energy," creating the runaway Universe, may be the biggest unsolved mystery in physics.
