The Technology Powering Wireless Charging 2.0

The technical concepts behind Wireless Power Transmission (WPT) are fascinating, but its technology development has been slow for multiple reasons. Simply put, the idea of transmitting power to charge any electronic device without plugging in cables is not an easy feat.

Early pioneering experiments by Tesla showed the feasibility of power transmission. But, the research efforts were largely dismantled due to government regulations and financial concerns. Several other research attempts have since been tried, including charging helicopters and planes at far distances while flying. But, overall none of these efforts ever resulted in commercial products.

Defining a commercially-viable WPT technology roadmap has been challenging, but we are making great progress. Today’s presentation will cover WPT production technology status, a technology evolutionary view, challenges leading to a phased WPT deployment and how we are positioned to overcome them. We will then discuss the Wireless Charging 2.0 market opportunities, and close by presenting a solution with a set of dedicated low-cost semiconductor devices and their application for implementation and deployment of WPT consumer products.
