Automated Construction Performance Monitoring and Operations through Advances in Computer Vision, Robotics, and BIM
Prof. Kevin Han is the Edward I. Weisiger Distinguished Associate Professor at NC State University. In this presentation, he will introduce ongoing research at the Construction Automation and Robotics Lab (CARL), which he directs. CARL focuses on the development and validation of advanced computer vision and machine learning analytics that leverage emerging and often already available visual data (i.e., images, videos, and point cloud data). The lab also integrates wearable sensory data (i.e., eye-tracking and multimodal wearables) and Building Information Modeling (BIM) for effective construction project controls, enhanced site-to-office and office-to-site communication, and personalized safety monitoring and training. CARL also conducts research in construction robotics aimed at automating field operations, such as welding.
